It Was The Waves
It was the waves; the tide rising to just touch us as we lay on the sand, silently without moving. The stars made sizzling sounds in the sky as if the night were consumed with fire. But the sand beneath us was cool, our bodies leaving imprints, hollow self-portraits which would disappear in the near hours when the tide takes our souls back out to sea. And then the stars began to fall, like confetti, like rain. The sky opened above us, the heavens fell upon us. We were covered by a blanket of light and beneath it, your body moved closer to mine. I felt the sand beneath me warm, felt the blood in me move faster to my skin to anticipate your touch. And I felt your skin against me, felt your breathing and your soft flesh. We were naked and the sky pulsed and undulated with our movement, the blanket of sky and stars wrapped around our bodies leaving small canyons for the tide to flow into. And I placed my hands upon you, placed my hand behind your head, and pulled your lips to mine and our bodies also pulled closer, my body almost in your body, until it was, completely. And we lay there entwined until the dawn became our blanket and we hummed soft songs of pleasure into each other’s ears….
